The GTA 40 is STIHL’s first professional-grade, battery-powered pruner, designed for high-performance use. Powered by two AS 2 lithium-ion batteries, it is part of the AS System and built for versatile operation both on the ground and in the air*—ideal for tree and shrub care, horticulture, landscaping, construction site wood processing, and tasks like crown reduction and tree canopy work.
Equipped with a powerful EC motor and a ¼” PM3 saw chain, the GTA 40 delivers precise, clean cuts, with a variable chain speed that offers full control over cutting performance. The tool features a side-mounted chain tensioning system, automatic chain lubrication, and a tool-free chain oil tank with ample capacity to support up to 6x AS 2 batteries. Its ergonomic design includes a soft, rubberized handle and upper grip to minimize slippage during operation. A claw-shaped deflector helps separate the upper grip from the cutting attachment for added comfort and safety. With a working time of around 50 minutes per charge, the GTA 40 makes light work of most clearing tasks.
The GTA 40 is designed for two-handed use and accommodates both right- and left-handed operators, thanks to its rocker switch on either side of the tool . An attachment ring provides easy access by allowing you to hook the tool to your belt, whether working on the ground or in the air. For added convenience, the GTA 40 also comes with an optional holster for quick access during use. A durable hard case is included for secure transport, with room to store up to 6x AS 2 batteries and an AL 5-2 high-speed charger.
The tool operates with two AS 2 batteries, which are discharged in parallel, and cannot be used with just one battery. The charge level indicator is located at the top of the tool for easy visibility. With the included AL 5-2 high-speed charger, both batteries can be quickly recharged in just 50 minutes.

This product is available for delivery within the UK and NI. We use various National couriers and stock products are usually dispatched within 2 working days after receipt of order. Product will arrive boxed and require basic assembly, fuel, oil, etc.
Shipping rates vary according to location, size, weight and type of product.
Local Collection is available on all products from one of our depots in Exebridge – Somerset, Chudleigh – Devon or St.Columb in Cornwall.
If collecting, we can also offer you our Essential Care Package. Where we can fully setup and assemble the product for you. This will include the addition of fuel and oil, etc. We can also offer a full handover with basic product training, and advice on use and maintenance.
